MET-I Description: The Missile Defense Agency Engineering Team – Industry (MET-I), also called the Missile Defense National Team (MDNT), provides systems engineering solutions to the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) for the development and evolution of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). The BMDS is an integrated, layered architecture that provides multiple opportunities to destroy missiles and their warheads before they can reach their targets. MET-I system engineers perform system-level assessments of the existing BMDS architecture and study the impacts of new technologies and concepts being considered for future BMDS architectures. The National Team engineers work closely with the MDA, FFRDCs, and various contractors and suppliers to shape the future of missile defense.
Position Description: In the scenario design role, the candidate will develop and present scenarios and supporting documentation, based on scenario design requirements, for ground test events that represent a phased execution of the BMDS. The systems engineer will be responsible for working with associated Systems Engineering (SE) teams, Test Organizations, Warfighters and Element Program focals to ensure scenario development meets scenario design intent for system ground test events, including details of system capabilities, behaviors, scenarios, data collection and characterization points to support current and proposed BMDS functionality and architectures. In the test analysis role, the candidate will develop and present analytical products that are based on assessing strategic and theater/regional system level performance of the BMDS in ground test and flight test events.
The candidate will represent the MDNT and perform work at and in collaboration with personnel at the Missile Defense Agency and U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC) on Redstone Arsenal. This position will require some local travel between the MDNT primary location at the Boeing Jetplex, AMRDEC, and the Von Braun facilities on Redstone Arsenal.
Knowledge of ground test design for a complex missile defense program.
Knowledge of System Engineering for test campaign and test event design processes in support of system assessment, and specifications.
Experience and understanding of system level behavior and performance characterization of battle management and command and control functions tied to specified performance metrics that are traditionally demonstrated in system level test events.
Pproficient and/or have experience in using analytical tools that assess the system level performance of the BMDS functions (e.g., radar acquisition, tracking, and discrimination; battle manager engagement planning, warfighter interaction, and engagement coordination with other BMDS systems; and interceptor acquisition, tracking, and discrimination.)
Able to work independently as well as part of a geographically distributed team.
Aable to review and apply event reference material to understand the requirements/objectives, to setup and conduct general or specific performance analysis (as determined from the requirements), and to verify expected system performance/behavior.
Active SECRET Clearance
BMDS element domain knowledge (e.g., THAAD, Aegis BMD, Patriot, GMD, C2BMC, SBX)
Strong systems engineering background and demonstrated collaboration and presentation skills (oral and written using MS Office or similar applications).
Strong background with Matlab or similar analytical tools (use and development), system analysis, and system level testing.
