Explosives Subject Matter Expert Instructor

PAE NSS is actively seeking an Explosives Subject Matter Expert (SME) Instructor to support active contracts in Huntsville, Alabama. The position may require CONUS/OCONUS travel.


Explosives SME Instructor supports the delivery of Homemade Explosives (HME) training course by preparing and conducting classroom exercises/lectures, practical exercise scenarios, conducting explosives demonstrations (including the preparation and handling of improvised explosives mixtures), preparing and conducting explosive disposal exercises and demo range clean up. Duties also include, but not limited to: Acting as Range Officer, Range Safety Officer, or Explosives Control Officer during live fire exercises.

Candidates with experience in exploiting/processing HME laboratories and conducting disposal operations involving improvised explosive mixtures are also preferred. Candidates possessing recent active duty/fulltime military or law enforcement service (within previous year) is strongly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must not be prohibited for possessing and transferring explosive materials as defined in Title 18, United States Code, Section 1102, Chapter 40.

  • Microsoft Office Suite qualifications.

  • Strong research, verbal and written communications skills.

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (preferred)

  • Eligible for both US Tourist Passport and US Official Passport

  • Able to obtain a Secret government clearance.

  • Graduate from the ATF Homemade Explosives (HME) Identify, Process and Dispose course within the previous two (2) years.

  • Experience as an Assistant Instructor in support of the ATF Homemade Explosives (HME) Identify, Process and Dispose course within the previous two (2) year

  • Must have held one of the following certifications:

  • NCETR Certified Explosives Specialist, ATF

  • Hazardous Device School, FBI
